The Coega IDZ is located close to Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality and is South Africa’s foremost investment hotspot for industries with a global perspective. Developed and managed by the Coega Development Corporation (CDC), this pioneering multi-billion Rand project aims to drive local and foreign direct investments in export-oriented industries – positioning South Africa as the hub for Southern African trade. Delegates will be able to view various projects within the IDZ and the Port of Ngqura.
Delegates will hike along a 3,5km trail. The Baakens River catchment includes a large portion of Port Elizabeth with the result that most of the city’s stormwater runs directly into the river. The city’s major sewage line also runs down the length of this River. Rangers from the municipality will accompany delegates on this trail. The hike will end at Bridge Street Brewery – a craft beer brewery, with a beer tasting and tour of the brewery.
In 1947 General Tyre South Africa (GTSA) was established by the Williams Hunt Group and General Tyre USA. In 1985 Continental AG and GTSA signed an agreement to produce Continental branded tyres in SA and since 2013 CTSA is 100% owned by CAG. Continental Port Elizabeth is the only Continental Tyre Plant in Africa. As a key distribution channel into South Africa and Africa, CTSA received the ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System certification for its Port Elizabeth Plant Warehouse.
The visit entails a tour of the Centre for High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy which is a facility for advanced electron microscopy situated at the Nelson Mandela University in Port Elizabeth. The facility houses four state-of-the-art electron microscopes including the only double aberration corrected transmission electron microscope on the African continent.
